  • The Pontiff has spent more than three weeks in hospital in Rome, Italy, as he battles with double pneumonia. Stuffed porpoise stomachs and blood custard for the rich, pickled carrots for the poor, and ale for all. Europeans in the Middle Ages ate some weird freaking stuff.

Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized for treatment of a respiratory infection, is receiving an outpouring of support and prayers from the faithful around the world. The pontiff, aged 86, was admitted to Gemelli Hospital in Rome after experiencing breathing difficulties, which were later identified as bronchitis rather than pneumonia as initially feared. Despite his health challenges, Pope Francis has continued to engage with his duties, including leading the Angelus prayer from his hospital room. His condition has sparked concern but also a wave of solidarity, with many expressing hope for his swift recovery. The Vatican has stated that his health is improving, and he is responding well to antibiotics, although he will remain in the hospital for several days for further treatment and rest.
