The Una Watch, developed by the Swiss startup Una, aims to be a sustainable alternative to popular smartwatches like the Apple Watch. It features a unique modular design where components such as the battery, case, and strap can be easily replaced or upgraded, reducing electronic waste. The watch uses a proprietary operating system called UnaOS, which focuses on essential functions like fitness tracking, notifications, and payments, while minimizing the need for frequent software updates. It's constructed from recycled materials, and its battery life is designed to last up to a year, significantly longer than typical smartwatches. Priced at $299, the Una Watch not only promises longevity and environmental consciousness but also offers a subscription service for ongoing support and updates, positioning it as a potentially more cost-effective and eco-friendly option in the long run.
