The U.S. Army has replaced its outdated Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) with the new Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT), aiming to better prepare soldiers for the physical demands of modern combat. The ACFT, introduced in 2022, consists of six events: a three-repetition maximum deadlift, a standing power throw, a hand-release push-up, a sprint-drag-carry, a leg tuck or plank, and a two-mile run. This new test is designed to be more inclusive and to assess a broader range of physical abilities, moving away from the APFT's focus on push-ups, sit-ups, and a two-mile run. The change reflects the Army's effort to ensure that all soldiers, regardless of their specific roles, are combat-ready and physically capable of meeting the challenges of contemporary warfare.
