Weight training protects older people's brains against dementia, study suggests

A study published in the journal GeroScience suggests that weight training can help protect the brains of older individuals against dementia. The research, conducted by experts from the Federal University of São Paulo, found that older adults who engaged in weight training showed improved performance in cognitive tests and had better brain function compared to those who did not. The study involved 64 participants aged 65 and older who were divided into two groups: one that underwent weight training twice a week for six months, and a control group that did not engage in any specific exercise. The findings indicate that weight training could be a valuable intervention to enhance cognitive health and potentially reduce the risk of dementia in the elderly population.
