  • Too often, ADHD and autism coincide in children. New research finds that for many of those kids, this dual diagnosis continues into adult life.

The article from UPI discusses a study published in the journal *JAMA Network Open* which highlights the challenges faced by adults with autism and ADHD. The research, conducted by a team from the University of California, Los Angeles, found that many adults with these neurodevelopmental disorders struggle with employment, social integration, and mental health issues. Key findings include higher rates of unemployment, underemployment, and social isolation among these adults. The study also pointed out the lack of adequate support systems and services tailored for adults, as most interventions are focused on children. The researchers advocate for increased awareness, better diagnostic practices, and more comprehensive support programs to help these individuals lead more fulfilling lives. The study underscores the need for a societal shift in understanding and accommodating the unique needs of adults with autism and ADHD.
