This legislation, effective immediately, requires gyms to provide a straightforward online cancellation option, mirroring the ease with which memberships can be signed up for online. Previously, members often faced cumbersome procedures to cancel, including mandatory in-person visits or certified mail. The law also mandates that gyms must allow cancellations within the first year without any fees, except for any remaining balance on the membership. Additionally, gyms must clearly disclose all terms, including billing practices, cancellation policies, and any associated fees, at the time of sign-up. This measure is part of a broader effort to protect consumers from deceptive practices in the fitness industry.
