Last year, a New Berlin woman was battling severe complications from her third COVID-19 infection. Her lungs were failing and treatment wasn't working.

A Milwaukee woman named Jennifer Green, who suffered from severe lung damage due to a rare autoimmune disease called granulomatosis with polyangiitis, has been given a new lease on life after receiving a double lung transplant. Initially, her condition was misdiagnosed as asthma, but it rapidly deteriorated, leading to her lungs being described as "Swiss cheese" due to the extensive damage. After being placed on the transplant list, she waited for a suitable donor, and the surgery was successfully performed at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. Post-surgery, Jennifer has experienced significant improvements in her health, allowing her to breathe freely and engage in activities she previously couldn't, like walking her dog. Her story highlights the critical importance of organ donation and the life-changing impact of transplant surgeries.
