"Emergency" health warning issued for 120,000 people

Air quality alerts were issued across two counties in Southern California on Friday amid harmful pollution levels.
An emergency health warning was issued for Southern California due to a sewage spill that released over 10 million gallons of untreated sewage into the Pacific Ocean, affecting beaches from Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro to the border of Mexico. The spill, caused by a break in a major sewer line in the Tijuana River Valley, has led to the closure of beaches and warnings against water contact in the affected areas due to high bacteria levels. The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality has advised the public to avoid swimming, surfing, and playing in the ocean water until further notice, as the contamination poses significant health risks. Cleanup and repair efforts are underway, but the full extent of the environmental impact remains unclear.
