  • Released as an even-more-affordable alternative to the already-affordable Xiaomi Smart Band 9, the Active model cuts the cost, as well as some corners, from that predecessor. However, it cuts so many corners that, like a really bad lapidarist, it leaves nothing left to appreciate.

The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Active, priced at $45 / £39 / AU$79, is a budget fitness tracker that offers basic features like step counting, heart rate monitoring, and sleep tracking. However, it falls short in several areas due to cost-cutting measures. The design feels cheap with a plastic body and a small, low-resolution display that lacks an always-on feature. The software experience is hindered by a slow, cluttered app and the absence of NFC for contactless payments. While it supports over 200 sports modes, the accuracy of tracking, especially for heart rate, is subpar. Additionally, the lack of features like on-wrist calls, music control, and third-party app integration makes it less competitive against other trackers in its price range. Despite its low cost, the numerous compromises in quality and functionality make it a less appealing choice for those looking for a reliable fitness tracker.
