The article from MSN discusses a revelation about the extra eyelets on running shoes, often referred to as "heel locks" or "runner's loops." These additional lace holes, typically found near the ankle, are designed to provide a more secure fit for the foot, reducing movement within the shoe which can prevent blisters and improve stability during activities like running or hiking. The author explains that by threading the shoelaces through these holes in a specific way, one can create a loop on each side, then cross the laces through these loops and tie them as usual, which locks the heel in place. This method, known as the "heel lock" or "lace lock," was something the author had been unaware of for years, despite its common use among athletes and trainers to enhance performance and comfort.
