  • Gov. Mike DeWine first announced the Ohio Children's Dental Services Pilot Program during his 2025 State of the State Address on March 12.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced a pilot program aimed at enhancing children's dental care by integrating dental services into pediatric primary care settings. This initiative, set to launch in 2024, will initially be implemented in five counties: Franklin, Hamilton, Lucas, Mahoning, and Montgomery. The program seeks to address the shortage of dental providers, particularly in underserved areas, by allowing pediatricians to provide basic dental services like fluoride varnish, dental screenings, and referrals to dental specialists. This approach is expected to increase access to dental care for children, reduce the need for emergency dental treatments, and promote overall health by catching dental issues early. The program is part of a broader effort to improve health outcomes for Ohio's youth, with funding and support from the Ohio Department of Medicaid and the Ohio Department of Health.
