The World Health Organization (WHO) has highlighted the health risks associated with excessive salt intake, particularly noting that regular salt consumption can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. In response, WHO recommends reducing salt intake and suggests several healthier substitutes. These include potassium-enriched salt, which helps in reducing blood pressure by balancing sodium levels; low-sodium salt, which contains less sodium chloride; and natural flavor enhancers like herbs, spices, vinegar, and lemon juice to decrease reliance on salt for flavor. WHO also encourages the use of sea salt, Himalayan pink salt, and other mineral salts in moderation, as they contain trace minerals beneficial for health. The organization emphasizes the importance of public health policies to lower salt content in processed foods and promote awareness about the benefits of reduced salt diets.
