How long should you exercise to undo the damage of all-day sitting? Study reveals

A recent study published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise has shed light on how much exercise is needed to counteract the negative health effects of prolonged sitting. The research, which involved over 11,000 participants, found that engaging in at least 22 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily can significantly mitigate the increased risk of death associated with sedentary behavior. This amount of exercise was shown to reduce the risk of all-cause mortality by 33% compared to those who sit for long periods without adequate physical activity. The study highlights the importance of incorporating regular physical activity into daily routines to offset the health detriments of a sedentary lifestyle, suggesting that even short bursts of activity can be beneficial.
