To Live Long, Focus On Your Fitness Than Your Weight; Finds Study
- A new study noted that being fit reduced the chance of early mortality for obese adults by half when compared to those of normal weight who were unfit.
A recent study published in the *Journal of the American Medical Association* suggests that focusing on fitness rather than weight could be key to longevity. The research, which analyzed data from over 10,000 participants, found that individuals with higher levels of cardiorespiratory fitness had a lower risk of mortality from any cause, regardless of their body weight. This implies that being fit can mitigate some of the health risks associated with being overweight or obese. The study highlights the importance of regular physical activity and maintaining or improving one's fitness level through activities like walking, running, or cycling, rather than solely concentrating on weight loss. This shift in focus could encourage more people to engage in physical activities that enhance heart and lung health, potentially leading to a longer, healthier life.
