After backlash from within and outside the party, CPIM Kozhikode Secretary P Mohanan withdrew his remarks linking MEC 7, a popular fitness program, to extremist infiltration, clarifying his intent was to caution against misuse of public platforms.

CPI(M) leader P. Mohanan has withdrawn his controversial statement linking the Muslim Educational and Cultural (MEC) Foundation to extremist groups. Mohanan had previously suggested that the MEC Foundation, which is under scrutiny by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for alleged links to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), was involved in activities beyond its stated educational and cultural objectives. Following backlash and criticism from various quarters, including the MEC Foundation itself, Mohanan clarified that his comments were not intended to imply any direct involvement of the foundation in extremist activities. He emphasized that his remarks were based on the ongoing NIA investigation and not on any personal knowledge or evidence. The MEC Foundation had strongly refuted Mohanan's allegations, asserting its commitment to educational and cultural upliftment of the Muslim community.
