  • High caregiving stress increases risk of high blood pressure by nearly 40% among Black women ages 21 to 44, new research shows.

The article from UPI discusses a study published in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine which found that Black women who provide caregiving experience higher levels of stress, leading to increased blood pressure. The research, conducted by the University of Pittsburgh, highlights that the chronic stress from caregiving responsibilities disproportionately affects Black women, potentially contributing to higher rates of hypertension. The study suggests that this stress could be due to a combination of factors including socioeconomic status, discrimination, and the lack of adequate support systems. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to mitigate the health impacts of caregiving stress on Black women, emphasizing the importance of addressing both the psychological and physiological effects of chronic stress in this demographic.
