Swimming keeps Portland's Joy Davis in good health at 96

Joy Davis, a 96-year-old resident of Portland, attributes her good health and vitality to her regular swimming routine. For over 30 years, she has been swimming at the Mt. Scott Community Center, where she completes 36 laps, or nearly a mile, each session. Her dedication to swimming has not only kept her physically fit but has also fostered a sense of community and friendship among fellow swimmers. Despite her age, Davis remains active, engaging in other activities like gardening and even taking on the role of a swim instructor for children. Her story highlights the benefits of consistent physical activity, social interaction, and a positive outlook on life, showcasing how swimming can contribute significantly to longevity and well-being.
