  • One diet came out a clear winner in a 30-year study involving more than 105,000 men and women and eight diets, researchers reported in the journal Nature Medicine.

The article from MSN discusses a study from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health which highlights the benefits of the Mediterranean diet for overall health. This diet, characterized by high consumption of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and olive oil, along with moderate fish and poultry, and limited red meat and sweets, has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. The study, which analyzed data from over 75,000 women and 44,000 men, found that adherence to this diet was associated with a 25% lower risk of mortality over the study period. Researchers emphasized that the Mediterranean diet's effectiveness comes from its comprehensive approach to nutrition, promoting not just individual nutrients but a balanced dietary pattern that supports long-term health.
