Sweetened beverages can raise risk of cardiovascular diseases: Study

A recent study published in the journal "Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association" has highlighted the health risks associated with consuming sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs). The research, which analyzed data from over 100,000 adults, found that regular intake of SSBs like sodas, fruit drinks, and sports drinks can significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Specifically, the study showed that individuals who consumed these beverages daily had a 17% higher risk of coronary heart disease compared to those who consumed them less than once a month. The study also pointed out that the high sugar content in these drinks leads to weight gain, increased blood pressure, inflammation, and insulin resistance, all of which contribute to heart disease. The findings underscore the importance of reducing SSB consumption to promote heart health.
