The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has proposed an update to the definition of "healthy" food, aiming to align it more closely with current nutritional science and dietary guidelines. Under the new proposal, foods labeled as "healthy" must contain a meaningful amount of food from at least one of the food groups or subgroups recommended by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy. Additionally, these foods must adhere to specific limits on added sugars, saturated fats, and sodium. For example, a product could be considered "healthy" if it contains at least half a cup of fruits or vegetables, or if it's a grain product with at least half of its grains being whole grains.
