A recent study published in the *Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry* has explored the nutritional profiles of various plant-based milks, revealing that while they offer certain health benefits, they are not universally healthier than dairy milk. The research, conducted by the University of California, Davis, analyzed 233 plant-based milk products, including almond, soy, oat, and coconut milk. The findings indicate that these alternatives often contain less protein, calcium, and vitamin D compared to cow's milk. However, they can be rich in other nutrients like fiber, vitamins, and minerals, depending on the type of plant milk. For instance, soy milk tends to have a protein content closer to dairy, while almond milk might be fortified with vitamins but lacks in protein. The study suggests that consumers should check labels carefully, as the nutritional content can vary widely, and some products might include added sugars or other additives that could detract from their health benefits.
